Common crops affected
Why it matters
Beyond feeding damage they are the top insect virus vectors, and colonies explode within a week, so early control protects both vigour and against virus spread.
When to act
Treat at first sign on growing points; scout undersides weekly in protected culture.
What to look for
- Colonies on new growth and leaf undersides
- Leaf curl and stunting
- Honeydew and sooty mould
- Virus symptoms from feeding
How to manage it
- Encourage ladybugs and lacewings; avoid excess nitrogen.
- Hose off light colonies.
- Spray Spider Mite Control at 1:500 on both surfaces; repeat every 3–5 days.
