Phytophthora Control in Pepper

Phytophthora (late blight and related rots) causes fast water-soaked lesions and can destroy a crop in days under cool, wet conditions. This page covers late blight / phytophthora in pepper.

Common crops affected

Why it matters

It spreads extremely fast and rots fruit and tubers, so prevention and rapid response are critical — once widespread it's very hard to stop.

When it appears

Cool, wet, humid weather; explosive spread.

How to identify it

  • Large water-soaked dark lesions on leaves and stems
  • White fuzzy growth under lesions in humid conditions
  • Rapid foliage collapse; firm brown fruit/tuber rot

How to manage it

  1. Maximise airflow; avoid leaf wetness; never work wet plants.
  2. Remove infected plants immediately.
  3. Apply Spore Control (1:1,000) ahead of and during cool, wet weather.
