PureTabs: Single-Dose Chlorine Dioxide Tablets

PureTabs are effervescent tablets that dissolve in water to release a pre-measured dose of chlorine dioxide at at least 98% purity. They remove the need to mix precursors or measure liquid concentrate, which makes them suited to remote sites, small operations and portable use.

Why a tablet format

Chlorine dioxide is a gas in solution and cannot be shipped as a ready-to-use liquid at useful concentration. Most users either run a two-part generator or activate a stabilized chlorite with acid, both of which introduce measuring error and handling of corrosive precursors. A tablet fixes the dose at manufacture. One tablet into a stated volume of water gives a known concentration, which is the practical requirement for footbaths, drinker tanks and field kits where no one is titrating.

Applications

Chemistry and by-products

Chlorine dioxide oxidizes by electron transfer and does not chlorinate organic matter, so it does not form trihalomethanes or haloacetic acids. It remains active across a broader pH range than free chlorine, which matters in hard or alkaline farm water. Its inorganic by-products are chlorite and chlorate; drinking-water use is governed by the residual limits set by the local regulator, and the label dose is set to stay within them.
