Thirty-minute back-bar facial
30 minutes in the chair, inside a 40-minute slot. Weekly or fortnightly as maintenance.
A 30-minute treatment is a set of deliberate omissions, not a 60-minute treatment performed quickly. What follows is mostly a list of what has been cut and why.
Who this is for
Maintenance clients between full appointments. Lunch-hour bookings. Clients who will not sit for an hour. First appointments where the point is to see how a skin responds before anyone commits to a course. Skin already in reasonable condition, because there is no slack here in which to handle a surprise.
Its commercial job is to hold the interval between full treatments and to carry the home routine. It is not the treatment that changes a concern.
Who this is not for
- A first-time client with a concern that needs assessment. This slot contains three minutes of consultation and a real consultation is fifteen. Book the full appointment.
- Anyone who needs extractions. There is no such thing as a four-minute extraction sequence, because you cannot know how long it will take until you have started.
- Active irritation, broken skin, or any open lesion in the treatment area.
- A professional resurfacing treatment within the last 7 days.
- Known sensitivity to any ingredient used. Check the full INCI.
Before you begin
Everything is dispensed before the client is in the room. Every trip back to the shelf mid-treatment costs 60 to 90 seconds, and this protocol has no spare minutes anywhere in it.
The room is reset before the client walks in, not after the last one left. A 30-minute treatment inside a 30-minute slot does not exist. Book 40.
Ask about makeup at booking rather than at the door. It is the only variable that changes the sequence, and it costs three minutes.
What is cut, and why
This is the part of the protocol that matters, and it is what you say to the client.
- Steam. Four minutes to set up and reach the skin, eight in use, and the room needs wiping afterward. That is a third of the appointment for a softening effect a warm compress delivers in 90 seconds.
- Extractions. Unbounded in time, and they create aftercare that has to be explained. There is no room here to explain it.
- Masks. Ten minutes of dwell that cannot be compressed, plus application and removal. Fourteen minutes for a step that a second serum layer approximates in four.
- Acids and enzymes. These need patch history, an aftercare conversation about sun protection, and a record. None of it fits, and the risk is not worth five minutes of glow.
- The second cleanse, on bare skin. A double cleanse exists to remove makeup and sunscreen. Without makeup it is one minute spent twice.
- Arms, hands, shoulders, scalp and feet. All of it. Say at booking that this is a face treatment, because their absence is the first thing a client notices.
What is cut is cut because it does not fit inside 30 minutes without making something else worse. Clients who understand that trade rebook for the full appointment. Clients who think they received a shortened version of the same thing do not.
The protocol, minute by minute
| Time | Step | Product | Amount | Technique |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0:00 | Settle and assess | none | Client down, hair wrapped, quick look under the lamp. Two questions: anything new on the skin, anything reacting. Not a consultation. | |
| 0:03 | Makeup removal, if needed | Comfort Cleansing Milk | 2 pumps | Only if makeup is on. Emulsify over dry skin, remove with warm damp cotton. If not, skip and bank the 2 minutes. |
| 0:05 | Cleanse | Bright Micro Bubble Cleanser | 1 pump | 60 sec of work on damp skin, then remove with warm damp cotton. It is here because it clears quickly. |
| 0:08 | Warm compress | none | 2 warm towels | 90 sec. This replaces steam. Blot, do not rub. |
| 0:10 | Tone | Bio-Ferment Essence Toner | Saturate 2 cotton rounds | Press over the face, do not wipe. Skin stays visibly damp into the next step. |
| 0:12 | Serum and massage | Hydrating NanoSerum, sealed vial | 1.0 ml, drawn through the stopper | Onto damp skin, pressed in with flat palms, then 6 minutes of massage over the top. The massage is the dwell; nothing waits idle. |
| 0:20 | Second serum layer | Hydrating NanoSerum, second layer | 0.5 ml | Onto still-damp skin. If it has gone matte, mist with Aqua Infusion Mist first, then apply. |
| 0:23 | Moisturize | AquaCell Moisturizer | Pea-sized | Press and roll. Let it set. |
| 0:26 | Finish | Aqua Infusion Mist | 2 to 3 passes | At arm's length, then leave the skin alone. |
| 0:28 | Sit up, retail, rebook | none | Two sentences of home advice, one product, one rebook. Decide which product during the massage, not now. |
The one thing that determines whether this protocol works: a 30-minute facial fails at the changeover, not in the treatment. The ten rows above run to 30 minutes reliably. What overruns a back bar is the two minutes spent looking for a decanted cleanser, the three minutes of consultation that should have happened at booking, and a room reset that starts after the client leaves instead of before the next one arrives. Protect the front and the back of the slot and the middle takes care of itself.
If something has to go on the day, cut the second serum layer, not the massage. The second layer is worth about a day of hydration. The massage is what the client remembers and what makes them rebook.
Frequency and course
Weekly or fortnightly as maintenance. This is not a course in itself and should not be sold as one. If the client has a concern, the right protocol is the one for that concern at full length, and this is what they book in the weeks in between.
Two in a week is not better than one. Nothing in the protocol is aggressive and nothing in it has cumulative value that a weekly cadence does not already deliver.
Aftercare
- No exfoliation, acid or retinoid for 24 hours. Short as it is, the skin has been handled.
- Daily broad-spectrum sun protection, from any brand. Vegalab does not sell an SPF product.
- Warm water, never hot, for the rest of the day.
- Nothing else. The aftercare is short because the treatment is.
What to expect, and when
Immediately after: skin looks smoother and more even and feels comfortable. Makeup sits flatter. Surface, real, and short.
For two to four days: hydration holds, if the home routine holds.
Across a series of maintenance appointments: what accumulates is the home routine and the relationship, not the treatment effect. Be honest with yourself about that when you plan a client's year.
Scope: thirty minutes maintains skin between full-length treatments. Resurfacing, congestion work and changes to tone or texture belong to the full-length concern protocols, and the booking conversation is where the client learns that.
Home maintenance
One product, chosen before the client sits up. Decide during the massage.
Morning: cleanse, press in Bio-Ferment Essence Toner while damp, AquaCell Moisturizer, sun protection.
Evening: cleanse, tone, Hydrating ProSerum onto damp skin, AquaCell Moisturizer.
Twice weekly: one 1.5 ml application from a sealed vial onto damp skin, drawn through the stopper. Each vial covers three applications. The ten-vial box is the natural sale on this appointment, because it is the same thing the client felt on their face twenty minutes ago and the connection closes without a pitch.
Show the vial mechanics once: the cap flips off, the syringe draws through the stopper, the stopper stays in place.
When to refer
Refer to a physician, and do not rebook the treatment, if:
- There is persistent redness, heat, swelling or itching that was not there beforehand.
- There is any lesion, mole or patch that has changed, or that the client cannot account for. You have thirty minutes and a good lamp, which is enough to notice and enough to say something.
- The client is asking you to treat congestion, inflammation or pigmentation in a 30-minute slot. That is a referral to a longer appointment first, and to a physician if it turns out not to have a cosmetic answer.
- Anything reacts during the appointment. Stop, remove product with cool water, and do not finish.
A short appointment is not a lower standard of care. The three minutes at 0:00 are the reason this protocol is safe to run at speed, and they are the first thing that gets skipped when the day runs late. Do not skip them.
