How our science is organized

In brief

The science behind Vegalab Beauty Science is organized in four roles: formulation, safety assessment, medical and dermatology review, and quality. Each role has defined accountabilities, set out below.

Formulation

Accountable for:

• Each formula: actives, base, carrier and preservative system.
• The full ingredient declaration for every product, confirmed against the supplier certificate.
• The formulation data behind each Level B claim, such as capsule specifications and stability data. See Evidence levels.
• Technical accuracy of the Technology pages.

Safety assessment

Accountable for:

• The safety assessment for each product, prepared and signed before it is placed on the market.
• Allergen declarations and the guidance on Patch testing and allergens.
• Every report received through Report a reaction, and the decision on whether a product, label or page must change.

Medical and dermatology review

Accountable for:

• Review of the knowledge pages, treatment pages and professional protocols before publication and at each revalidation.
• Complete and correct contraindications and escalation sections.
• Cosmetic wording throughout: every Vegalab product is described as a cosmetic, for how skin and hair look and feel.

Quality

Accountable for:

• Manufacturing and filling records, lot traceability and release of each batch.
• Conformity with ISO 22716 cosmetic GMP guidelines. See Manufacturing and GMP.

• The documents available to professional accounts. See Documentation.

How review works

Every claim is confirmed by more than one role. Formulation confirms that a statement is true of the formula. Safety assessment or medical and dermatology review confirms that it is safe and correctly worded for its audience. Quality confirms that the evidence record exists and is current before the claim enters the claim register.

Independence

An outside specialist who contributes to a review declares any payment or other relationship with Vegalab, and reviews only pages that concern no product or study in which they have a financial interest.
