Spider Mite Control in Hops

Two-spotted spider mite is a major hop pest, climbing the bine in hot, dry summers and invading the cones where damage is most costly. Late-season cone infestation stains and downgrades the harvest.

Common crops affected

  • Hops

Why it matters

By draining cells they cut photosynthesis and yield, and infestations flare fast in hot, dry conditions and after broad-spectrum sprays kill predators. Their webbing protects them, so early control matters.

When to act

Scout from mid-summer heat; act before mites reach the cones.

What to look for

  • Stippling and bronzing climbing the bine
  • Webbing and mites moving into developing cones
  • Reddened, brittle leaves in hot spells
  • Downgraded, stained cones at harvest

How to manage it

  1. Reduce dust and heat stress where practical; protect predatory mites.
  2. Remove and destroy heavily webbed leaves.
  3. Spray Spider Mite Control on both leaf surfaces at 1:500; repeat every 3–5 days.
  4. Avoid peak-sun applications to prevent oil phytotoxicity.

Recommended Vegalab program
